Nick of THIOS

This week, TheBootsGirl catches up with local MK band Thios.

First off, for the newbie listeners in the crowd, who exactly are Thios?
Thios are a 4-piece rock band who have been around about 2 years. Until recently we were a 3-piece but we recently added another guitar into the mix.
The music is heavy and experimental and heavily influenced by bands like Tool, A Perfect Circle, Radiohead, etc.

And who are you?
Nick . Vocals and guitar

Right. So tell me Nick, what have Thios been up to recently?
Basically we have been teasing in the new guitarist and some new material is on the way. We are maybe gonna record a new CD this summer if we get our act together.
We are playing The Pitz on 27th May which is pretty much our main gig this month. But its a good line-up and should be a good night. We were also supposed to be playin ‘Jam in the Park’ in Leighton Buzzard but that got postponed. We may be playing that in august.

Have you played at The Pitz before then?
Yeah we played The Pitz a few times. Like many bands in MK, we did our first gig there so it kinda feels like home to us.
Whatever people say about that venue, locally it is the best place we have found to play - particularly sound wise. Dave (the sound guy) really knows what he is doing and it always sounds really good which makes it all the more fun.

Sounds pretty cool. Who are you playing with?
Graveltrap, Six.Point.Five and Fell Silent.

That is a decent line-up, what do you think of the other bands then?
I'm not really into my ska or my punk but I really like Fell Silent right now. They are heavy and rhythmic and atmospheric and it all sounds good to me! The other bands are tight and should bring a good crowd.

And what do you think of the whole MK scene in general?
I like a lot of the stuff that is going on. Some awesome sounds out there. Right now I'm liking Modus Vivendi, Elation Through Sound, Facade, Fell Silent, and some more I could care to name. There is no shortage of good bands that’s for sure.
If anything I feel the scene is a tad ageist - and it definitely knows what kind of music it likes. We have been doing this for couple of years now and it is still kinda hard to get gigs locally on a regular basis.
Maybe it is us. But I know a lot of younger bands finding it hard too. It’s like there are the big bands who can get headliners, then you got your hardcore fortissimo kids and then there is everyone else y’know? It seems a little slow at times - nothing against those other guys though.
It’s essentially a good scene.

And finally where can people find more info about Thios?

www.thios.tk, or www.purevolume.com/thios or our myspace account.
Or come talk to one of us - we don't bite!

Thios will be appearing at The Pitz on Friday 27th May as part of the Local Bands Night with Graveltrap, Six.Point.Five and Fell Silent.
Get your tickets quick people, rumour has it they're selling fast.
